I want to share a little something with you about my experience this past weekend. I went to Houston for a writer’s workshop with Hay House. If you aren’t familiar with Hay House, they are the fastest-growing mind-body-spirit and transformational enterprises in the world. And if you’ve been following this journey of mine and what I’m all about, then you know this was right up my alley!
I flew to the conference having no clue what to expect. It was a weekend filled with AMAZING speakers who were also authors. NY Times Best Selling authors. Authors who came from nothing, who never even wanted to be authors but ultimately they had such a powerful story inside them that they felt like they had no other choice but to sit down and write a book about it. It was incredible to watch them on stage speaking to hundreds of people and talking about how when they first started they used to have full blown panic attacks before going on stage. And now they do it for a living.
They shared stories about overcoming their fears one small step at a time. Choosing to sit down and write when everything else was trying to get their attention. They were dedicated to the craft everyday even though at times they hated every second of it. They knew that they had to face their fears in order to get to the next phase of their life, in order to get one step closer to their dreams.
It wasn’t about the money. It wasn’t about the finished product. It wasn’t about who would read it and if anyone would even like it. It was about them and their journey and staying true to exactly who they are but amplifying that by a thousand. You could see every glimpse of that come alive on stage and it was powerful beyond belief.
…
This weekend or this coming week, I want you to think about one dream that you have. Maybe it’s also to be an author, maybe it’s to be a mother. Maybe it’s not a profession that you dream about but a relationship, a certain financial status or even something else that you’ve known for a long time you want to achieve.
Take a minute to think about these questions and then take the next 5 minutes to write down your answers.
What does that dream mean to you?
What will you do to achieve it?
What is one thing about it that scares you? (hint: it might even be the thing that’s holding you back from pursuing it further)
What’s one small step you can take right now to help you overcome that fear?
Mine was signing up for the conference. Booking the plane ticket. Going to a new city by myself and saying “This is my dream! And if I’m not putting effort in to learn everything I can and meet the people who are also in this industry and trying to do similar things as me, then what am I spending my time doing?”
The questions are the easy part. it’s coming up with the answers that are the challenge. Buy the ticket. Take the ride.
